Private Flute Lessons in Austin

"If I can do it, anybody can do it."

After his education in Amsterdam, Thomas' teaching style draws from the Northern European tradition. This tradition enforces that music education should come from a point of knowledge - stylistically, technically, and artistically. This exemplary way of teaching suits a wide range of students, from the ambitious high school student, through to the curious adult amateur.

As a teacher Thomas feels like a travel agent, advising students on their own "flute journey." As a consequence, the structure of the lessons often depends upon the personal goals of the student. Thomas has experience teaching children, high school students, pre-college division music majors, college students and adult amateurs - students who have played in school and community orchestras, churches and simply for their own personal enjoyment.

As a Dallas-Ft. Worth native, Thomas is familiar with the Texas music education scene. He was the principal flutist of the Fort Worth Youth Orchestra from 2005 to 2007. During that time, he won the soloist and high school masterclass competitions of the Texas Flute Society (2006) and was a member of the National Flute Association's National High School Flute Choir (2005-2007).
